Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive skin exfoliation treatment that improves the appearance of minor skin conditions such as sun damage, scars, wrinkles and other unwanted skin problems. Using our new DiamondTome™ system, this procedure aids in this exfoliation process by gently removing the skin cells with tiny diamond chips and vacuuming away the excess. Advantages of the DiamondTome system over traditional (particle) dermabrasion and chemical peels are no loose particles, no irritation, no skin reaction, and no contamination of you or the environment. Microdermabrasion may be combined with other procedures such as chemical peels or laser treatment.

The microdermabrasion procedure offers patients effective results that are visible immediately. Patients can benefit from a reduced or eliminated appearance of acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, as well as improved skin texture and reduced pore size. In addition to its cosmetic results, microdermabrasion also helps to enhance circulation and lymph flow, allowing skin to be healthy on the inside and outside.

Treated skin is temporarily pink but recovers fully in approximately 24 hours. Patients can usually reapply makeup and nonirritating creams right after the treatment.

During the microdermabrasion treatment, the esthetician will use a diamond tip across the targeted area of aged or damaged skin to scrape away the surface layer. The skin is then suctioned away with a vacuum tool so that the fresh, healthy underlying skin remains.

The results of this procedure can be further prolonged through follow-up maintenance treatments. Microdermabrasion may also be combined with other skin rejuvenation treatments, based upon an initial evaluation of the skin.

Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction (liposculpture) is a progressive and minimally invasive alternative to traditional liposuction. Dr. Athena Kaporis  specializes in tumescent liposuction of the body as well as face and neck. This procedure is proven quick, effective and long lasting. Pre-op consultation, designed to develop an individualized plan, coupled with Dr. Kaporis' perfectionistic approach, will give you the results you desire.

During the procedure, the treatment area infiltrated with diluted local anesthetic before “vacuuming” the fluid and unwanted fat. This process is called “suction aspiration.” This eliminates the risks associated with the general anesthesia used in traditional liposuction.

Another major advantage of the anesthesia used in the tumescent procedure, is that it virtually eliminates blood loss by constricting (tightening) blood vessels. In traditional liposuction, no such agents are used.

Tumescent liposuction also allows the patient to remain awake during the procedure and able to assist the surgeon in gauging the completeness and evenness of fat removal. The patient can actually sit or stand and make side-to-side comparisons. This minimizes the need for "touchup" procedures.

Using the tumescent procedure, all liposuction cases can be performed entirely with local anesthesia.

Laser Hair Reduction

Laser hair reduction is a cosmetic procedure used to remove unwanted body and facial hair with pulsed laser energy. Using the LightSheer® DUET™ laser by Lumenis®, this procedure treats hair from the targeted area while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. Common areas on which laser hair reduction is performed are the chin, upper lip, chest, underarms, back, bikini line and legs. Areas targeted are usually somewhat dependent on the gender of the patient.

While there are many temporary treatments to remove unwanted hair, such as tweezing, shaving, using depilatory creams and waxing, patients seeking permanent hair reduction methods that are less irritating or painful are very pleased with treatment option.
